How to Make Steamed Rice | Plain White Rice

If I talk about a dish which is prepared and eaten in India or almost every country of the world, then the name of that dish is steamed rice, we also call it plain white rice. It is very easy to make, it uses only rice and water. Today I am going to share the recipe how to make steamed rice which is also known as plain white rice is eaten as a main course dish in many countries of the world.

In Indian across almost all states steamed rice is a very important dish in the lunch and diner food plate. It is eaten with various types of curry dishes like in North India with dal, rajma, chana curry and kadhi pakora, in South India with sambar dal curry and coconut chutney, in East India with special types of dal curry dishes. How to make Steamed Rice

Ingredients

  • Basmati Rice – 1 Cup
  • Oil – 1 Small tbsp
  • Water – 6 Cups
  • Coriander Leaves – 1 Small String for garnishing

Direction Step by step

1. Take a cup of basmati rice. Many varieties of rice are available in the market. You can choose rice as per your taste and availability. I have used Basmati rice to make steamed rice.

2. Wash the rice thoroughly in a bowl with tap water. To make the rice soft and fluffy, soak the rice in water for 5 to 10 minutes.

3. Keep 6 cups of water in a big vessel to boil on high flame.

4. When the water boils, add the soaked rice into it.

5. Add half spoon oil. Oil is used in hot water to prevent the rice from becoming sticky after boiling and to ensure that the rice becomes fluffy.

6. After 8 to 10 minutes, check the boiled rice with the help of a spoon. Press the rice with the help of finger and thumb and if it melts and breaks, then the rice is completely cooked. Turn off the gas.

7. Use a strainer to separate the boiled rice from water. With the help of a cloth, hold the vessel from both the sides and slowly pour the boiled rice into the strainer.

8. Leave the boiled rice in this strainer for some time so that all the water gets drained out of it. Steamed rice is ready to serve. Garnish it with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot steamed rice with your favorite curry dish.

Steamed rice is very much liked all over the world and is serve with various types of Kari diseases. Even in India, steam rice is an important dish of the Indian thali.

You can serve steamed rice with a variety of curry dishes which include Indian curry dishes like chana masala, its best combo is considered to be with Kadhi Pakoda, you can also serve it with Rajma masala which is called Rajma rice in India. It is also known as street food and is a very good combination of steam rice with Palak Paneer which is liked all over the world.

Special tips for fluffy and Non Sticky Steamed Rice

  • To make soft and fluffy rice – soak the rice in normal water for 5 to 10 minutes before boiling it in hot water. With this method the rice becomes soft and becomes fluffy after boiling in hot water.
  • Use of water – To boil 1 cup of rice, you will have to take 6 cups of water. To make perfect steamed rice, it is important to keep the right amount of water in mind.
  • Use of Oil While boiling in hot water, starch is formed in the rice due to which the rice becomes sticky. After putting soaked rice in hot water, add one teaspoon oil in it. This method makes excellent steam rice.
  • To check if rice properly cooked or not – To ensure that the rice is properly boiled and cooked, press the rice with the help of your finger and thumb. If the rice melts and breaks, then the rice is completely cooked. In this way you can check that there is no rawness in the rice.
  • Use of Basmati Rice – Basmati rice is used to make excellent and tasty steam rice. The grain of Basmati rice is long and after boiling, each grain becomes whole, which is very tasty and tasty to eat. Its fragrance is very charming.
