Various types of dishes are made from rice. Matar Pulao a very tasty and quick dish of Indian food, is a main dish of Indian food plate. Basmati Rice Pulao with Fresh Green Peas is one of the most made dishes in my house during winter season and is also a favorite food of my kids.

In my childhood, my mother used to make Matar Pulao in her lunch box. I have learned this recipe from my mother in which some special Indian spices are used due to which its aroma is very pleasant and the taste is excellent.

Today I am going to tell you a very easy step by step method of making Instant Pot Matar Pulao or Peas Pulao. With this easy method you can quickly make restaurant-like aromatic and very tasty cooker pulao at home. To make this recipe, I have used some special spices which make this dish special, aromatic and tasty.

Matar Pulao made from Basmati rice is a very tasty and famous dish of Indian food plate. Made from fresh green peas and rice, this dish is seasoned with some special spices. With use of some special spices, makes its aroma very pleasant. Pulao is best served with Curd Bondi Raita, gravy curry dishes, raw vegetables and fruit salads.

What is Matar Pulao or Peas Pulao

Matar Pulao or Peas Pulao made from Basmati rice is a very tasty dish Which is served as a special dish in Indian food plate. This is a very easy and quick dish which everyone likes for lunch and dinner.

To make it, some special spices like star anise, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, whole black pepper, clove, cumin, asafoetida and turmeric powder are used. With the use of spices, its taste and aroma becomes very wonderful.

It is best to use Basmati rice to make this rice recipe because the grain of Basmati rice is especially long and fragrant after being cooked, which makes the pea pulao even more delicious.

Note: You can use any particular rice variety as per your taste and preference. I would recommend you to use Basmati rice to make Peas Pulao because the real taste of this rice recipe comes only from the use of Basmati rice.

How to Make Instant Pot Matar Pulao or Peas Pulao

Ingredients

  • Basmati Rice – 1 cup
  • Green Fresh peas – 1 cup
  • Black Peppercorn- 10-12
  • Clove – 4
  • Star Anise – 1
  • Cinnamon – 1 small stick
  • Bay Leaves – 2
  • Cumin Seeds – ½ tbs
  • Turmeric Powder – ½ tbs
  • Asafoetida – ½ tbs
  • Salt – 1 tbs or as per your taste
  • Oil – 2 tbs
  • Water – 1 cup ( take 1 cup water for making 1 cup rice ) in equal proportion.

Ingredients for Garnishing

  • Fresh Green Coriander Leaves – 1 small string

Ingredients for Salad making

  • Fresh Tomatoes – 2 Medium size
  • Green Chili – 2 Medium size
  • Bunch of Green Grapes – 1

Cooking Direction step by step

1. Wash 1 cup basmati rice in water and keep it in a big ball to soak for 5 minutes.

2. Place the cooker on the gas stove and heat 2 spoons of oil.

  • Add ½ teaspoon asafetida in hot oil with below whole spices.
  • 2 bay leaves.
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds.
  • 1 star anise.
  • 1 small cinnamon stick.
  • 4 cloves.
  • 10-12 black peppercorns.

3. Put one cup of fresh green peas in the pressure cooker, add ½ teaspoon turmeric and mix peas with all the spices with the help of a frying stick.

4. Drain the water from 1 cup soaked rice in the bowl and put the rice in the pressure cooker.

5. Mix the rice and peas mixed spices by stirring with a frying stick.

6. Add water equal to the mixture of rice and peas in the pressure cooker.

Note: The quantity of water is very important in making Peas Pulao Recipe. Use 1 cup water in equal proportion to make 1 cup rice. What method are you saying like crazy? Special care should be taken that the amount of water should be equal to the mixture of rice and peas. If the amount of water is too much then the rice will melt and become sticky. To make each grain of rice bloom, it is important to pay special attention to the quantity of water.

After mixing 1 cup of peas in 1 cup of rice, it is important to keep the amount of water in the same ratio.

7. After adding water to the cooker, close the lid of the cooker. Keep the flame of the gas stove on medium flame and turn off the gas once the pressure cooker makes 2 whistles. Leave the pressure cooker closed for 2-4 minutes so that the rice gets cooked properly.

8. Open the lid of the pressure cooker after 2-4 minutes.

9. Remove the lid of the pressure cooker and let some steam come out.

10. When the steam comes out, mix both the peas with the cooked rice with the help of a frying stick.

11. Stir gently and mix the peas and cooked rice with the help of a frying stick.

12. Peas Pulao is ready to be served.
