Ingredients

  • Palak (Spinach) – 250 gm
  • Tomato – 3 Medium Size
  • Ginger – 1 Small size
  • Green chili – 2
  • Cumin Seeds – 1/2 tbsp
  • Hing (Asafoetida) – 1/4 tbsp
  • Garam Masala (Hot Spices) – 1/2 tbsp
  • Red Chilly Powder – 1/4 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Kasuri (Dried Fenugreek Leaves) – 1/4 tbsp
  • Salt – 1/2 tbsp or as per taste
  • Fresh Coriander Leaves – For garnishing

Directions Step by Step 

1. First of all, boil water in a vessel. Put spinach leaves in boiled water. Keep the spinach leaves in boiled water for 3 to 4 minutes till the leaves get mushy.

2. Put ice cubes in a vessel. Take out the spinach leaves from hot water and put them in a pot of cold water. Keep spinach leaves in cold water for 2 minutes.

3. Put the spinach in a mixer grinder to grind it.

4. Grind the spinach in a mixer grinder. Take out the ground spinach paste in a vessel and keep it.

5. Put tomatoes, ginger and green chilies in a mixer grinder to make a paste.

6. Grind tomatoes, ginger, green chilies in a mixer grinder. Take out the tomato green chilli ginger paste in a vessel and keep it.

7. Heat one spoon of oil in a frying pan. Add 1/2 teaspoon whole cumin seeds and 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida to the hot oil.

8. When cumin starts crackling, add tomato green chilli ginger paste to it. Mix the paste by stirring it with a frying spoon.

9. Add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric, 1/2 teaspoon garam masala, 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt to the frying pan. You can add salt as per your taste.

10. Stir all the spices with a frying spoon on a low flame and fry the tomato paste by stirring it with a frying spoon for 1 to 2 minutes.

11. When the tomato paste is fried well, leaves the oil and becomes thick, then add the ground spinach paste to it.

12. Mix the spinach paste with the roasted tomato paste by stirring with a frying spoon and cook on a low flame for 1 to 2 minutes.

13. When the spinach is cooked well, add the chopped paneer pieces to it and mix the paneer pieces with the spinach well with a frying spoon.

14. To make Palak Paneer gravy more flavorful, add 1 to 2 spoons of fresh cream to it.

15. Mix the cream with palak paneer by stirring it with a frying spoon. Cook on low flame for 1 minute.

16. Switch off the gas. Now add 1/4 teaspoon kasoori methi to it and mix it with a frying spoon. The use of kasuri methi enhances the taste of Palak Paneer Recipe.

Palak should be properly boiled – To make delicious Palak Paneer, it is very important for the spinach to be properly boiled and thawed. Before taking out the spinach leaves from the boiled hot water, check that the leaves are properly cooked.

Tomato paste should be properly roasted – Adding the boiled spinach paste (chutney) to the roasted tomato paste, check that the tomato paste has left the oil and is cooked well.
