  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Curry Leaf – 8-10
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Peanuts – ¼ cup
  • Potato – 2 small size
  • Turmeric Powder – ¼ tbsp
  • Sugar – 1 tbsp
  • Asafetida – a pinch
  • Salt – as per taste

How to make poha Recipe Step by Step 

1.Cut two small potatoes into small square pieces. ¼ cup peanuts and keep them in a bowl.

2. To make this recipe, first take 2 cups thick poha. To soften the poha, wash it two to three times with water in a strainer. After this keep it aside. It will absorb water and become soft. While washing it, one thing has to be specially kept in mind that it has to be washed only two to three times, washing it excessively will make it very pulpy and sticky.

3. Add ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, salt as per taste and one teaspoon sugar to the poha washed in a strainer and mix it with the help of a spoon.

4. Potatoes have a special flavor in this recipe. Take two small potatoes and cut them into small square pieces so that it cooks easily and quickly while stirring in oil. Now put one tablespoon of ghee in a frying pan and heat it. Fry the chopped potato pieces when the ghee is hot. Potatoes have to be fried for 3 to 5 minutes so that they get cooked well and become soft. When the potatoes become slightly crisp and golden, take them out in a plate on tissue paper so that the excess ghee comes out of the fried potatoes. The less the ghee, the healthier and lighter our recipe will be.

5. After roasting the potatoes, in the same frying pan, fry 1/4 small cup of peanuts in the remaining hot ghee on medium heat. Roast the peanuts till they become crisp so that there is no rawness in the peanuts and the peanuts are roasted well. Take out the roasted peanuts from the frying pan and keep them in a plate.

6. Put a small spoon of ghee in the frying pan. Put a pinch of Asafoetida in hot ghee, add a spoonful of mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds start to crackle, add 10 to 12 curry leaves to it and stir a little with a frying spoon.

7. Add roasted peanuts and fried potatoes (which we have already fried) to the frying pan and mix well with mustard seeds and curry leaves.

8. Now put poha in the frying pan and mix it well with peanuts and fried potatoes.

9. After adding potatoes and peanuts, if the poha mixture looks a little dry, sprinkle 2 to 3 teaspoons of water as needed. After this, mix the whole mixture well with a spoon. Stir gently with a spoon and steam cook on low flame for 1 to 2 minutes. This will remove the extra wetness and the texture of Poha will be perfect.

10. When the poha is ready, squeeze one to two teaspoons of lemon juice and mix it well with the poha. If you do not want to mix lemon juice in poha, then serve sliced ​​lemon slices with poha.

Important Note : For Poha Recipe Making

  1. For poha recipe, take thick poha only. Because the thin poha will become mushy and sticky if washed in water. Don’t use thin type of poha.
  2. While making poha recipe, while washing thick poha also one thing should be specially kept in mind that it has to be washed only 2 to 3 times, washing more will make it very mushy and sticky.
  3. To use peanuts in poha recipe, roast the peanuts on medium flame only. Keep in mind one thing in particular that there should be no raw water in the peanuts. Roast the peanuts till they become crisp so that the peanuts are well roasted.
  4. We use lemon to give a little sourness to the poha recipe when it is ready. Lemon can be used in two ways.
  • Method 1: When poha is made, you can squeeze lemon in it and sprinkle it on top and mix it.
  • Method 2 :  While serving Poha, you can keep a slice of lemon in it so that you can taste the sourness by squeezing the lemon as needed.
